The day after Thanksgiving my husband went mountain biking up in a remote area called Dalton Canyon. Its an old road up to Mount Baldy. He found a stray (dog) that had obviously been dumped by someone days before. He arrived home with him, mumbling how he has to "clean up" after other humans who don't take care of their animals, and how could anyone just "dump" a family member etc. etc. He was a mess, half his fur was gone and he was all scabbed over from fleas and ticks and generally dirtyness. He was sooo hungry and scared, but didn't take long to warm up to us with a meal, some hugs and scritches.
He looked at me and I almost broke into tears (of happiness). We wisked him off to the vetranarian who gave him something to kill the fleas, medicated shampoo, creme rinse, all his booster shots and a treat. I took him home and gave him 2 baths, pulled off lots of dead fleas and ticks, brushed him, and gave him a meal and introduced him to Kodiak (the Akita) and Homey cat. We decided it would not be such a good idea to introduce him to the rats as he is a Cairn terrier. I asked my husband what he was going to name him, since he found him and I assumed he would be his dog. He decided to name him Sprocket (since he found him biking), and said he was my anniversay present (our third anniversary was 2 days before).
Little Sprocket is the best present I have ever recieved. He has slept with us every night, and is as charming as can be.
So now we have:
2 dogs :)
1 cat
3 ratties
1 very happy ME!

Tomorrow is my 3rd anniversary. I am still very much in love, I am not sure however if my husband loves me. He hasn't said it for weeks. So I will just go along with it and hope I can hear those words again.

I will be cooking the turkeys for the turkeys this year. The outlaws, my dysfunctional family and whom ever else shows up to eat some delicious food. I am after all at least a fairly good cook.

Early Christmas Post, I guess I am just gettin' in the mood!

Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
There were creatures stirring
They were rats not a mouse

Their stockings were hung from the hammock with care
In hopes that Rat Nickalaus soon would be there

Neo was nestled all snug in his box
While Francis busily chewed holes in some socks

Fez in his hammock with kleenex too
Grooming and bruxing and saying achoo!

When all of a sudden they hear such a clatter
They sprang from their nesting to see what was the matter
Climbing the cage wire in a flash
Stuck their noses out as far as they could without getting them mashed

And what aroma to their twitching noses did float though
But the smell of some reindeer and a big fat guy too.

HAH! What is wrong here. I went to "Cost Plus" to look for Thanksgiving things, Pilgrims, turkeys etc to put out and about the house. Can you believe this, there was about 3 feet of shelf space dedicated to Thanksgiving. Between the 2 aisles of "sale" halloween stuff, and half a store of Christmas items. A society that will invent a holiday if they thought it might sell, and no Thanksgiving gimmicks! Amazing I must try a different store.

I was a bit disappointed since Thanksgiving is actually one of my favorite holidays. No presents to buy, 4 days off at my favorite time of the year, autumn, lots of good food to eat and recipes to try, getting everyone together, and those leftovers! But I think most of all Thanksgiving gives us a time of reflection about our lives. We should be truly thankful for what we have. Note the good things that have happened during the year, not just the bad ones and sadness.

I read a very depressing article in the LA times today about a baby that died from neglect. This was in a care system in LA County. Can you believe it. I just don’t understand, there are so many people out there that want these babies, to adopt them yet this type of sadness continues to happen.

I have been thinking alot since I have been home. I am trying to figure out what will make me feel better. I realized it needs to come from the inside, not the outside. I can get lots of massages, pedicures, make over and still feel like trash. Not sure what will do that. I haven’t quite put my finger on it.

Friday. I did a little work on my web site. It is really not much. You would think that being a geek it would have a bit more umph!

I went to the new Paseo Pasadena today. They just turned an inside mall to an outside mall and added a few more expensive shops an nice resturants. Same old stuff. I am not very impressed. However at the Macy's which was there at the inside mall and is now at the outside mall (same old Macy's) I was approached by a guy from the BeneFit Cosmetic counter, He was so gay, and so nice! He did a complete makeover, and when I didn't like something, he washed it off. Then after he wrapped my purchases he showed me how to apply some of the products that I wasn't sure of, on himself!! Talk about a fun afternoon.
