The day after Thanksgiving my husband went mountain biking up in a remote area called Dalton Canyon. Its an old road up to Mount Baldy. He found a stray (dog) that had obviously been dumped by someone days before. He arrived home with him, mumbling how he has to "clean up" after other humans who don't take care of their animals, and how could anyone just "dump" a family member etc. etc. He was a mess, half his fur was gone and he was all scabbed over from fleas and ticks and generally dirtyness. He was sooo hungry and scared, but didn't take long to warm up to us with a meal, some hugs and scritches.
He looked at me and I almost broke into tears (of happiness). We wisked him off to the vetranarian who gave him something to kill the fleas, medicated shampoo, creme rinse, all his booster shots and a treat. I took him home and gave him 2 baths, pulled off lots of dead fleas and ticks, brushed him, and gave him a meal and introduced him to Kodiak (the Akita) and Homey cat. We decided it would not be such a good idea to introduce him to the rats as he is a Cairn terrier. I asked my husband what he was going to name him, since he found him and I assumed he would be his dog. He decided to name him Sprocket (since he found him biking), and said he was my anniversay present (our third anniversary was 2 days before).
Little Sprocket is the best present I have ever recieved. He has slept with us every night, and is as charming as can be.
So now we have:
2 dogs :)
1 cat
3 ratties
1 very happy ME!
